Giving to the local church is a way of honoring God and supporting His work in the world. The Scriptures teach us that everything we have belongs to God, and we are only stewards of His resources (Psalm 24:1, 1 Corinthians 4:2). We are called to give generously, cheerfully, and sacrificially to the church, which is the body of Christ and the pillar of truth (2 Corinthians 9:6-7, 1 Timothy 3:15). By giving to the local assembly, we participate in God’s mission of making disciples of all nations, we help meet the needs of the saints and the poor, and we store up treasures in heaven (Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 4:32-35, Matthew 6:19-21).
